1. Minimize the Effects of Jet Lag
Jet lag can be brutal during a long trip, especially if you are traveling from West to East. Taking a red eye flight can make the problem a lot worse if you don’t follow the right protocols.
Fortunately, there are a lot of ways that you can minimize or even eliminate the effects of jet lag during an overnight flight. Here are some tips from United Airlines:
- Try to get a window seat and bring a plush pillow. This will make it easier to fall asleep on the flight, which will make the trip go by easier. You may feel almost no jet lag if you fall asleep on the flight, because seeing the first rays of sun the next morning will help reset your circadian rhythms.
- Try to drink a little bit of water during your trip to keep from being dehydrated. However, you don’t want to drink too much water, because it will be tough to fall asleep.
- Wear loose clothing, so you can rest more easily.

2. Make Sure that You Have a Safe Way to Get to the Airport
You don’t want to be wandering around a large city late at night, especially if you are a woman. You want to find a safe way to get to the airport. If you have to drive, try to park on the same floor that you will enter the airport at. You don’t want to have to worry about running into any creepy people in the parking garage.
3. Try to Keep a Positive Outlook
If you have a negative perspective on your flight, you will feel a lot worse about it. You will want to try to see it as a good opportunity. You want to make your overnight flight as comfortable as possible. One of the most important things that you can do is follow the right diet. Try to eat food that is limited in sugars and spices. You also want to eat manageable portions, so you don’t have indigestion. This will not only make your flight go more smoothly, but also make it easier to fall asleep.
